Blog wars come to Boston

No, no, I'm not talking about blogging Herald writers going after anonymous media critics this time. While that battle does involve honor and virtue and helmets mit der spikes on top, no money is involved.

That's not the case with the impending war between BlogMedia and Gothamist. BlogMedia, Inc., which pays people to blog, is looking to start up a Boston blog (scroll down this page). And that brings them into conflict with the Gothamist empire and its Boston suzerainity, which doesn't pay people to blog. First volley was fired by BlogMedia, which accuses Gothamist of being slave-driving blogger exploitationists (give them points for chutzpah by spamming an otherwise inoffensive Bostonist post about Todd Gross with a link to a copy of the screed). Hmm, far be it from me to take sides in this fight, but would you really want to work for a company that attempts to recruit talent by painting a competitor as Southern plantation masters (or is there proof that Gothamist is forcing people to write for their network at the point of a whip)?

Meet the new boss...

I realize I'm an old blog hippy, but all this professionalization makes me groan sometimes.

PS You're becoming ubiquitous, Adam: not only quoted in today's Globe, but also in an article hanging on the wall of my neighborhood spukie shop (spukiteria?).

What?!? You missed my name in Sidekick earlier this week? :-).

Which spuckie shop? I can't believe they have that column on the wall; it must be 15 years old now (but that's cool; it's one of my favorite columns because it was when light dawned over Marblhead and I realized there was a lot more to Boston English than "Hahvihd").

Spukies

I don't miss anything about Sidekick. :)

The article in the shop (Spukies 'n Pizza's Quincy branch) is more recent; it's someone else's piece in which you were quoted as an expert in Boston slang. If you wrote a column about the word, though, I'd love to read it.

(I notice that you prefer the "spuckies" spelling; I leave the "c" out because I'm in a hurry to eat.)

Didn't see you in Sidekick. What day and page?

I have no idea what page, but given how thin it is, shouldn't take you more than 5 seconds to find the two-page spread by Meredith Goldstein. Or click here (of course, this being the online version of the Globe, there are none of the photos).
