He's baaack (OK on a station you probably can't get)

WUML, the formerly all-student radio station at the University of Lowell, looks to become the public-broadcasting powerhouse of the Merrimack Valley, or something: It's signed former WBUR talking head Chris Lydon to do a one-hour show. You may recall how he left 'BUR in a tiff with then station head Jane Christo over money and control issues. Christo has since left (over, um, money and control issues). Hmm, could 'BUR license Lydon's new show?

Chris Rocks!

Hooray for WUML! Alright, maybe they don't have much by way of RF power, but they have a streaming audio server:

I believe that he will be hosting "Thinking Out Loud" (Mon.-Thur. 10AM-11AM) sometime soon. I'll be listening.
Peace.

I dj'd at the UMass Lowell radio station for 5 years a while back when it was called WJUL as opposed to the current WMUL. It was mostly student-run, with the exception of the non-student Spanish show. We were on the air from 6am - 2am. Christian groups would monitor the station to see if they could catch swears being broadcast so they could persuade the FCC to sell them our number on the dial. We had to fight to keep WJUL a student-run station. Now it seems like this group of students could care less. Pretty sad state of affairs for college radio.
