Hey, there! Log in / Register

Respectfully dedicated to the young woman who died in the Brighton biking accident, and those who were involved.

I am starting a new blog in memory of the 24 year old woman who was killed on her bike the evening of August 9, 2010 in Brighton, MA. This blog is not for those who wish to disect the accident, judge the driver or the victim or any other comments that are in any way insensitive to this unfortunate occurance. This is simply to offer ones consolences. I would like to start by saying that I witnessed the entire accident from start to finish. I am deeply saddened for those who knew this young woman and my heart, my thoughts and my prayers go out to her family and her friends. I would also like to put forward my regrets to the woman who happened to hit this young lady. While you are not at fault here, that is a terrible thing for you to undergo. Being a 25 year old woman myself, I feel strangely affected by this. I read up on this young woman who passed and she really had lived an tremendous life. So accomplished at such a young age and so loved by so many people! She sounded like a remarkable person and I feel a strong sense of grief relating to the way she went and for all who knew her. Rest In Peace.

Thank you Sky. You too should be included in the prayers and concerns as someone who witnessed this. I hope that you take care of yourself following the trauma you incurred as a witness. I look forward to hearing from you and will add all of you to my prayers.

This is very sweet of you. I knew nothing of the accident except what i read on this website. I too was moved reading the story because this young woman seemed to have been so accomplished already with such a bright future. It is tragic that she will not have that chance.

I very much appreciate a space for people to share condolences however I feel it was inappropriate to identify her or share a private memorial service on a public forum. I do not believe her family has condoned this or even released her name.

It is a tragic story, but her name - and for better or worse, the basic outline of her death - is already public. Both Smith College and the Cambridge Masters swim club have posted public remembrances of her.

The posted service certainly looks like a public one for friends and fellows - otherwise, it wouldn't be listed as a Harvard event. I suspect there will be a private service in NM that will not be posted here.

Being a 25 year old woman myself, I feel strangely affected by this.

You saw something horrific happen to somebody not unlike yourself and you had no power to stop it or change it, and that is traumatic. It can't be unseen or undone.

Thank you for putting this up so people can send her family and friends healing and soothing thoughts.

I live in Brighton. We graduated from Smith during the same year. I watched her swim at the indoor pool at Smith, I was at the swim meet with a friend (whose birthday was on Monday Aug. 9) who wanted to see the swim team generally, and Marly specifically. She was a great swimmer.

You all have such kind words. I hope that if Marly's friends and/or family are reading this that it gives them a sense of comfort.

Dear Sky,

Marly was much loved here in New Mexico and will be greatly missed. The grief felt here in her community is profound. She was an inspiration to us all with her enthusiasm, dedication and positive attitude. Her family was extraordinarily supportive of her goals and aspirations. It was a thirty mile drive from their house to the pool and they often made that drive twice a day so Marly could train with the best coaches. And her entire family, including grandparents came to every swim meet! And difficult as it was, they encouraged her to move across the country to study and follow her dreams.

I am grateful that you set up this page for Marly. I am sorry that you witnessed her accident but you have performed a great kindness for those of us who loved Marly, and are greatly saddened by her death. So thank you.

I offer my condolences to the deceased woman's family and friends and my thoughts are with them at the time.

I haven't read your blog, Sky, but it's very sweet of you to open a blog in her memory. More power and the best of luck to you!
