At the immigration rally

John Daley was there and says what he saw made him feel better about the future:

... I saw and heard the new working class of Boston. Irish music played as people waved Mexican and Guatemalan flags and yelled "Viva America." JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" was recited from the stage to cheers from the crowd. ...

A great event

The rally yesterday was truly a great event, with a fabulous, upbeat, celebratory mood--which was all the more impressive when one considered that the immigrants there were facing daily demonization in political and media discussion. Helps to show the power of collective action--not just to effect political change, but to help people to put their fear aside.

A quick note--if there are Jewish folks who want to support immigrants as Passover begins, click here to sign a petition that's intended to be published as newpaper ads. It's being organized by a number of groups, including Tekiah in Boston.
