But where will they live?

So Cambridge is a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.
Harry notes that Cambridge apartment rents average $1,400 a month:
... This economic barrier to entry will allow the city to persist in blissful sanctimony, untested by an influx of immigrants.

newsworthy?

I read this article on my way out the door this morning, so maybe I missed something. But it sounded like it was about a proposed--not even actual--billboard by a right-wing group in another state. THIS is news? If I discuss a billboard I want to put up somewhere in New Jersey, can I get a Globe article on it?
You're right - old news

Right up there with opponents of the Senate immigration bill calling it the Reid-Kennedy Bill even though it also has Republican sponsors (including ol' W himself). Yeah, the story is kind of odd - one billboard in New Jersey? - but props to the Globe to letting us know how we're viewed west of Worcester, even if by people putting up a single billboard in New Jersey.
So why did I post (and for our return viewers, yes, I changed the text that originally made it sound like this was, um, new news)? Harry still has a point to raise about the words-vs-deeds angle.

The point is to protect the many immigrants who already live in Cambridge. They should be able to approach the police, or other city employees, without fear that they will be turned over to Immigration.
Protecting Cambridge's Undocumented

...turned over to US immigration by a Cambridge police officer? Sure.
The typical UNDOCUMENTED in Cambridge is likely working as a domestic in the million-dollar homes that provide sanctuary for many DOCUMENTED Cambridge residents.
"But Cambridge is a sanctuary" (and so proud of it)!
I don't think Cambridge will challenge towns like Lawrence and Lowell for the immigrant housing business, sanctuary or not.
Not all of Cambridge is Brattle Street

Take a walk from Central Square towards Kendall Square, then up to Lechmere, and west back to Inman. Then perhaps you will get a better understanding of Cambridge's demographics.
Not Brattle Street, but Not Cheap Either

Ron,
I just now took a look at Cambridge rental units on Realtor.com. There are roughly 40 listed there and the price range is $1300-$4800 per month and most are 2 bedroom.
Not a market price range that will attract many undocumented, I would say.
What you continue not to understand

What you continue not to understand is that the sanctuary ordinance is intended to protect the immigrants who are already here.
