I have a job to do

Jay passes his very own vote of no confidence in me and several other big-mouth Boston bloggers with whom he's disagreed.

Speaking of votes of no confidence, I'm surely the only person on earth who finds it hard to care about (let alone just feign interest in) the Clash of Egos over at the World's Greatest University (although I am curious: Are those bodyguards around Larry Summers? And if so, are they packin'?).

But what do I know? No doubt, the fate of Western Civilization hangs in the balance, so get over to Richard Bradley's Shots in the Dark for some insightful All Larry All the Time. Via Martial, who has some choice words about a Harvard prof interviewed by Matt Lauer.

Hmm, you know what would be cool? What if Larry Summers and Matt Amorello switched jobs?

Wouldn't you be a little ticked off if your boss told you that socially and statistically speaking, you were incapable of ever doing a good job, that you would always be a screw-up no matter what you did? I wouldn't want to work for someone that had such little respect and low expectations, whether it was at Harvard or McDonalds.

I agree. I think it's important when the leader of the "greatest" college in the country says that women are inferior to men. If a leading institution can't respect women's intellect, how can we expect anyone to?

I work in academe, and after reading much about it, I don't think he'll get canned. He's too valuable to the giant fundraising project they're launching. But I'd like to see him go.

On thinking about this, yes, if the president of WGU says something that is so ridiculous, it's worthy of coverage. Just not THIS much coverage, perhaps.

You're absolutely right, and if I had something to do with Harvard, I would care, but I don't, so I don't need to read endless reams of articles about Harvard, and I wonder why John Silber never got this kind of coverage for some of the things he did, but of course, this IS Harvard we're talking about.

Oh, I remember lots and lots of articles about John Silber. One of his (and BU's) investments in a biotech company got plenty of press attention.

Now, Northeastern and UMass-Boston and Tufts tend to fly under the radar most of the time.
