Remember that fancy new PA system the T put in?

Turns out it only works if somebody remembers to actually make announcements on it:
... I waited at Government Center station on July 19th for a D Train for a half hour before I finally took it upon myself to hop another train to Park Street and attempt to catch a D Train there. (This is not my first go around with these jokers). The MBTA neglects to make announcements that anyone riding the D line will have to take another train to Park Street, so there were about 100 people at 4:45pm just waiting. ...

t announcements
i was at a horribly crowded south station waiting for my hot (routinely),over-crowded commuter train when the announcer said something to the effect (paraphrasing) "will the smart-ass customer please be polite to others." another chronic problem on the t is a lack of crowd control at key stations. south station is embarrassing considering it's many folks first sight of boston: almost ALWAYS anarchy reigns, huge crowds crowd around the small monitors located high above certain tracks, while others mill around blocking peoples ability to get to their train. often a train will be announced at a certain track and a HUGE crown will show up with no train in sight! they stand there completely blocking other commuters trying to to or from other tracks; this while cops (transit and antrak) stand nearby drinking coffee and shooting the you know what like a couple of old ladies! people also routinely block exits (the classic step outside and immediately come to a full stop directly in front of the door, while the 100 people behind you crash into each other)these people of course also love to give you a dirty look for wanting to get by their lame ass.
