Is this any way to run a film festival?

I walked into Loews Boston Common yesterday afternoon, hoping to find a program booklet, a brochure, or at the very least a displayed advertising poster for the Boston Film Festival, which starts in five days.

The first few employees I talked to knew nothing about any upcoming festival. After about 10 minutes, I found a manager, who said they had received no printed material. He did offer to print out a schedule for me, however. The four-page printout lists the names and showtimes of films, but contains no descriptions. It does not match the schedule on the web site, so I have no idea which one is correct.

The web site still says "Coming Soon" where the list of film descriptions should be. Also "Coming Soon" are the list of special appearances, and the current press releases (2006 News).

The site's front page starts with "In the tradition of benchmark film festivals like Sundance, Venice, and Telluride." I don't think so! If this festival can't get its act together very soon, it's going to go away entirely.

The BFF is notorious for this, unfortunately. For the past few years it's been impossible to get any info out of them until a day or two before the thing starts.

They're either terribly unorganized or seriously understaffed...

It’s a shame that a festival of this size has no adequate presentation and excepting the schedule everything will “come soon”. If they won’t advertise at least a accurate schedule I don’t see a bright future in this year’s film festival.

If you remember this as a large festival, it isn't anymore. It used to take over most of the screens at Sack/Loews Copley Place for two weeks. Now it's down to one, maybe two screens at Loews Boston Common for a week.

Also, when I follow their link to buy tickets online, I do not see any festival films listed (nor, for that matter, any other films playing after September 7).

I can attempt to pass on some information at least on our film. It will be screening as part of the festival. We're one of the smaller independent films that were accepted into the festival and I hope you'll take the time to take a look at our site to learn more if there is no official festival info floating around out there.
