Heard Around Boston

A side effect of living in a big city, where everyone is in everyone else's personal space, is that one overhears other people's conversations. I've been noting to friends that 95% of all conversations I overhear concern complaining about someone else....

liars

My fascination is the number of people I hear on their cellphones lying about where they are. People on the T saying they're several stops less far along than they are. People at CVS saying they still haven't left the office and it's gonna be a while. People in bars saying they're at a different bar, and yeah, sure, stop by and see if we're still here. People in bars saying they're at a friend's house. People various places saying they won't be able to make it because they're in [insert other city here] right now.

They don't call it the "idiot tax" for nothing.
