How could they?
One's immediate response to reading that some Harvard students are upset because the school has taken away their Lucky Charms might all too easily be something really snarky involving phrases such as "spoiled elitist twits" and "more important issues in the world," strung together with a variety of choice epithets.
But then you read more of the story and you discover that not only are Harvard students now forced to do without brand-name cereals, they no longer get their free lobster dinner. And you think, "Those bastards! How much can these poor students be forced to endure?!?" And then you call your accountant and cancel your bequest to the Harvard endowment fund.

Re: How could they?
Well, $4000 is a hefty price for a meal plan, so I wouldn't call the lobsters "free"... but, whatever. Heaven forbid Harvard students/faculty/etc complain about anything (however firmly tongue is planted in cheek).
Maybe the faculty will pass a vote of no-confidence in Harvard Dining Services.
