The mighty Mother Brook

Roiling, roiling, roiling

The Mother Brook in Dedham and Hyde Park is usually pretty quiet. This spring, large amounts of melting snow and rain have gotten it all roiled up. Click on the photo for a Quicktime video (3.3Mb) showing the water going over the dam at the Charles River off Rte. 1 in Dedham (the dam controls the amount of water flowing into the brook and so the Neponset River). Some of the sound you'll hear is the roaring wind - it was really whipping around this afternoon.

Is it just the angle, or is that thing like flowing uphill?

Although there was a cool eddy going in which some of the water WAS coming back to hit the dam instead of just flowing down the brook.
