Police: Guy who fired shot into downstairs neighbor's apartment tried to get his bullet back

Three people were arrested on a variety of gun and drug charges last night after their downstairs neighbor dialed 911 to report a bullet had just come through her ceiling, Boston Police report.

Police say that when officers arrived at 28 Dyer St. in Dorchester shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday, nobody answered their knocks on the door of a second-floor apartment from which the bullet had come. The first-floor resident, however, did talk to police and told them that she heard a commotion upstairs and then the bullet made its appearance. And then:

Someone began banging violently on her front door and a male voice yelled "Let me in, somethings in there of mine I gotta get" and "Let me in! Let me in! Open the (expletive) door". The victim refused to let him in and observed through the peephole a tall black male. She reported being afraid while the male was at her door and in fear for her life.

Police say officers established a perimeter around the building and, when nobody continued to answer the entreaties on the second floor, they busted in:

Two males, later identified as Juanquis Hicks, 21, of Hyde Park, and Kevin Bryant, 21, also of Hyde Park were encountered in the rear bedroom. A female, later identified as Ethel Walter, 26, of Dorchester, was encountered in the third floor rear stairwell. She was holding her 2 year old son. The minor child was transported by Boston EMS to Boston Medical Center for a well-being check. Officers observed two bags next to Ms. Walter, on the landing. They could smell the strong odor of what they believed to be marijuana emanating from the bags. The bags were seized as part of an ongoing investigation as well as an unknown amount of Class B substance, believed to be crack cocaine.

Officers located three firearms during a search and one firearm was located in a closet which was directly overhead where the ballistic damage was found in the first floor apartment.

The first-floor resident IDed Hicks as the man who banged on her door, so he was charged with armed home invasion, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Bryant was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and disorderly conduct. Walter was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, trafficking in up to 200 grams of crack, possession of crack with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

The three are scheduled for arraignment in Dorchester District Court tomorrow.

Innocent, etc.
