Charlie chromedomes at the T

TC says Charlie can kiss my ass, because all but two of the turnstiles at Malden Center were set to accept only CharlieCards today:

...Smart cards have only been distributed for the past week or so, and aren't going to hit major active use until January when they replace T Passes. It's more likely that the thingy that sucks in the tickets and spits them out was malfunctioning. The new equipment at least senses this and puts up an alert. I know MBTA operations aren't super logical or anything, but there really would be no reason to turn off the ticket-taking function otherwise.

No, no-- let me be clear: The screens on two of the gates said "WELCOME". The screen on the remainder of the gates said "WELCOME", then below in smaller letters, "Smart Cards Only". Naturally, this didn't stop a bunch of people from trying to jam paper cards in to those machines anyway.

The same thing's happened to me a couple times at Roxbury Crossing. I've walked up to a machine, am about to put my ticket in, and the friendly woman tells me that it's jammed and won't take tickets, and to use another. The display on the thing read "WELCOME smart cards only" both times.
