I saw an Easter display already.

July 4th is just around the corner too!

It demands a public shaming a photo!

Sometimes I get good photos of this stuff, other times, not so much.

By the Griggs St. T stop also had an Easter display out. It was next to the Christmas 50% display, so Santa's head loomed over it.

And Uhub...what I thought was an Easter display was actually a poorly lit Christmas display...It was dark, I was confused!

I went in search of chocolate covered cherries on Xmas Eve at the Stop & Shop in Arlington, Mass., and next to that large display of holiday candy was a small display of Cadbury hard shelled easter eggs (one of my favorites, but please, really....) and these Reese's peanut butter eggs. WHAT is wrong with people? They wouldn't be selling it if people didn't buy it.

If they want to bring out the Cadbury creme eggs early that's fine with me.

it is the next sell-stuff holiday - why not? It's not like people need garden hoses right now. Save the criticism for when they get two holidays ahead.

Why not save the trouble and simply start selling all holiday items all year round? It seems this society cannot live without there always being some upcoming holiday with the attendant merchandise and decorations in windows, etc. Even fake holidays like Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Columbus Day, and the like. It's nonstop.

Space is the main reason. Many stores (i.e. CVS, Walgreens) only have oh so much space dedicated to seasonal items. Which is why its usually "sell down" item (which means after the holiday or sale, the price drops so low that it flies off the shelves). And then of course, why have empty shelves when you can fill it with the next seasonal item! (empty shelves in stores aren't ascetically pleasing!)

I worked at a drug store when I was a teenager (the chain is no longer around.. got sucked up by Rite Aid and Eckerd in the 90s). The day after Christmas we were setting up Valentine's and Easter Candy. We had summer items in March, and Xmas stuff up after labor day.

We only had ONE 'flyer week' a year were we did not get any season items (because there was no flyer), which was the week between Christmas and New Years. We could mark down all the Christmas Stuff and put a *modest* selection of Easter and Valentine's Day stuff out (we usually didn't get the full delivery until after the 1st). This is when we marked down all the crap that was lying around in the store room (from previous sales that didn't sell) and have it marked down 75-90% off.

Well, empty shelves probably are ascetically pleasing. Aesthetically, perhaps not so much...
