Maybe they can use the fare increases to fix the doors on the Red Line
Jenny reports on an awful incident involving a little kid stuck in a door as her Red Line train started leaving Broadway yesterday afternoon:
... Everyone who noticed started screaming, causing anyone who hadn't noticed to look up and panic.
A group of about five launched at the Emergency Button and Emergency Brake located at the end of each car. After about five pushes of the button it was clear that it was either a) broken or b) being ignored.
The train never stopped. ...
OK, so some passengers managed to extricate the kid from the door. And then there was even more fun involving a door that opened by itself as the train approached JFK and T workers who just didn't give a shit.

Not horrifying like that, but infuriating nonetheless...
Waiting at Harvard last weekend, me and a bunch of others were standing at the end of the Inbound platform nearest to the turnstiles. A train came in; but the last car, in front of our crowd, did not open its doors. It was labeled "This car does not open its doors automatically". We assumed that that implied that they would, in fact, OPEN, manually or something. However it took us a minute or two to realize that the doors weren't going to open at all, and so we started moving towards the other cars. At that exact moment, all the other doors closed, and the train started moving. There were many annoyed yells, but our only response was a T watcher who looked completely out of it as the train pulled away, leaving a crowd of angry riders to wait for another train.
Probably we should have started moving a little quicker, so that's on us. Silly customers, we expected a train with fully operating moving parts. And train operators who would notice a crowd of people waiting to get on a train.
The sign on the doors had
The sign on the doors had nothing to do with the doors not opening.
The sign says that doors don't REopen automatically (like elevator doors do). It's supposed to discourage people from squeezing through as the doors are closing.
These signs are on plenty of cars with working doors. The car you tried to board was closed probably because of a door problem.
The conductor should have gotten on the PA and announced that the last car was out of service, and then waited for everyone to walk to the next car.
WHDH/WCVB looking for Red Line door trap victim
Reading Jenny's blog made me angry, so I forwarded a post excerpt and a link to local media outlets hoping they might help to hold the T accountable.
With in a half hour I heard back from Channels 5 & 7. They are looking for more details and the victim's identity. If anyone has any additional information, I hope they forward it to the media or post it either here or on Jenny's blog.
