The Boston Fire Department reports a water main ruptured around 7:50 p.m. at 300 Sumner St. flooded basements and displaced dozens of residents when the power was shut off as a precaution.

The department says water got into basements in six to eight triple deckers along Sumner and that power was shut off to roughly 50 buidlings. NStar, the Mayor's Office of Emergency Management, the Boston Fire Victims Assistance Unit and the Red Cross are on scene.
