Roslindale loses its only Albanian restaurant

Andrew Watson reports the sad news that Cafe Apollonia on Belgrade Avenue re-opens on Jan. 18 as the Boston Brickhouse, which, from the description, sounds like West Roxbury's Real Deal, only with more seats: It'll be your basic burger and pizza joint:
... I don't think that Roslindale (or Boston in general) needs more pizza and burger places. I hope that some of the Albanian dishes stay on the menu. ...
Then again, at least it's not becoming another chic Italian bistro.
In other Rozzie restaurant news, the neighborhood's best Chinese take-out, Golden House on Washington Street, stops taking credit cards on Jan. 15th.

Cafe Apollonia
I have recommended the Cafe Apollonia to several people after having had a wonderful meal there almost two years ago. But I recently went back with some relatives to find the great Albanian jewel had turned into just another American TV pizza and sports bar. How sad! We did not stay, but drove all the way back to Providence for dinner, rather than eat there. This had been the only Albanian restaurant I've ever found in the US.
