So how many new cops will Boston actually hire?

The Herald says 190; the Globe says only 50. During his State of the City address, Menino said 190; the Globe doesn't explain why its number is different. Who's right?
The Globe also says the city will build a new playground in West Roxbury. Nope. The city is already rebuilding the Hynes Field playground.

a slight difference
190 seems really, really high. Perhaps it's the 190 new officers in the Herald/Menino text who are new to the BPD force - though there are only 50 more officers as relayed by the Globe?
That could make sense
But in that case, the Globe really should have pointed that out, because Menino said something like "190 new officers" - and I certainly came away thinking there'd be 190 new pairs of feet on the ground.
agreed
Oh, I certainly agree. They should have made that clear. Or informed the readers on where the 140 "old" officers might be going (do that many retire, move each year?). If Menino is only talking about adding 50 badges to the force kudos to his speech writers for duping the audience with semantics.
