Dear WBZ, why is this even an issue?

Channel 4 is asking local journos to start calling it WBZ instead of CBS4Boston. Like they really need to be prompted? Anybody even remember what the Garden was briefly called?

Of course, guys, might help if you changed cbs4boston.com to point to www.wbztv.com instead of the other way around (hmm, how long before the TV station muscles the radio station out of www.wbz.com?).

At one time, wbz.com was just a page with two links, one to TV, the other to radio.

Yup, I Remember That...

Anybody even remember what the Garden was briefly called?

"Garden"? What about tradition? It'll always be The Shawmut Center to me.

Shawmut Center

Channel 4 to Spatch: HEY STOP CALLING US CBS4BOSTON
Spatch to Channel 4: Funny, I hadn't started calling you "CBS4Boston" in the first place.

I still have to think about it...

...for a second to figure out which channel is NBC and which is CBS.

Yes!

Sometimes I look for Leno on 4 or Letterman on 7. I still have to think long and hard as to what channel the football games are on Sunday, becuase the affiliates have swapped and the NFL has changed broadcast contracts several times. Ha!

Indeed

It's true.

I remember when the last network switch was made. MY WIFE and I received something in the mail from, I believe, Cablevision, which pretty much read as follows:

New Alignment!

Channel 4 is no longer NBC! It is now CBS!

Channel 7 is no longer CBS! It is now NBC!

Please make a note of this for your future reference!

We both scoffed, "Yeah, that's SOOOOOOO complicated. We'd better write it down, now!"

You know what? We've been cursed ever since with never getting it right the first time we try to find one of those networks. We always, without fail, turn to the wrong channel first.

bring back Eyewitness News too

I thought I was the only one who still thinks Channel 4 is NBC and 7 CBS and it has been 12 years now.

Lobel lucked out when the Patriots contract moved from NBC to CBS and the Pats caught fire.

Let's bring back Eyewitness News while we at it. they were still calling it that as late as 1993

Now please tell me I am not the only one who remembers when WBZ-TV used this news theme

Eyewitness News Theme 1965-1971 also used in Philadelphia at KYW

Go Sox!

Me, too

Although in my case, it might be due to having grown up in New York, where 4 meant NBC as well (whadaya mean, Saturday Night Live isn't on 4? Well, at least that resolved itself when I stopped watching due to its sucking).

Sure, bring back Eyewitness News, but only if we can get a promise that Channel 7 will not start calling itself SE7EN again.

and before that ....

By Ron Newman | Wed, 01/17/2007 - 1:23pm

some time in the early 1970s, before I got here, channels 7 and 5 swapped network affiliations. This was when WHDH-TV lost its license for channel 5 and was replaced by the current WCVB.

And that ...
