Songs about Boston?
Charles wants to compile a list of songs about Boston.
As much as I still get a thrill when the Standells yell "FRUSTRATED WOMEN!" in "Dirty Water," I think my favorites are "The Rascal King" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones and "Roadrunner" by Jonathan Richman (which mentions Stop & Shop). Hmm, I think those are also the only songs about Boston that I know (and the latter's really more about the suburbs - it mentions 128 after all). So get your song title to Charles today, so I can have something new to echo around my head.

more songs
Please Come to Boston - Dave Loggins
Charlie on the MTA - Jacqueline Steiner and Bess Lomax-Hawes; most famously recorded by the Kingston Trio
Rock and Roll Band - Boston
Mega-mega-mega DOH!
Of course, "Charley on the MTA!" Gah, how could I forget that? As opposed to the other song, which is one of those ones that will drive you insane.
lots more songs
Take a look at this thread at Wicked Good.
Wicked Good?
Yeah, I've heard of that :-).
HEE
Also, Alice's Restaurant by Arlo Guthrie takes place in Stockbridge Massachusetts. Which is not in Boston. But which is in Massachusetts. Where Boston is.
Noo!
As much as I love that song (and the movie), you cannot put it on the list, because then you'd also have to add "Massachusetts" by the BeeGees, which is one of the worst songs. Ever.
And the lights all went out in Massachusetts
They brought me back to see my way with you.
Noooooooooooooooo!
But ...
But you could add "Sweet Baby James", which has both Boston and Stockbridge in it.
Which other song?
the first one, or the third?
Please Come to Boston
Right up there with "Massachusetts," if you ask me.
Boston Songs
Thanks everyone for your comments. A couple of others that come to mind: The Street Dogs "In Defense of Dorchester", and in the early 1980s The Future Dads did "Dorchester Summer" and the Gremies (some of the Future Dads with Jeff Connolly of Lyres fame) did "No Surfing in Dorchester Bay".
And no, songs about Massachusetts don't count for my purposes, nor do songs that only have passing references to Boston. I am embarassed to admit that I completely missed Willie Alexander's "Mass Ave".
Regards,
Charles

As soon as I hit "Post Comment" I remembered the Real Kids "All Kinds of Girls", which was also covered by the Shods.

Here`s a link to a good site about 80`s punk scene in Boston.
I personally liked Gang Green`s stuff, the 'This is Boston not LA' compilation and 'No Surfing in Dorchester Bay' by the Gremies was a big hit in...you guessed it... Dorchester.
