What is this, Cambridge?

Carpundit is aghast that Tom Menino is wasting city resources to crack down on prices at parking lots around Fenway Park:
... Why not regulate the Fenway Park ticket prices, Mayor Tom? That's where the costs are really out of control. (No, I don't advocate ticket price regulation, either. The games are too damn expensive, so I recommend everyone do what I do: stay home.) ... If the Mayor wants to interfere with the relationship between the seller of a limited service and the purchaser, he doesn't understand the role of city government. ...

I thought the same thing
When I saw the headline my first thought was "screw the parking prices, what about the ticket prices?" We take the T in, so no problem there. Buying tickets is the problem. Oh, if you can find any. I wanted to take my kid to his first game this year, but the only tickets that seem to be coming up are standing room only. Uh, no thanks. Not for twenty bucks each (!).

I don't get it, either
The higher the parking lot prices, the fewer people will drive to Fenway, and the less traffic congestion you'll see on game days. Isn't that a good thing for our city, Mr. Mayor?
No...
You're talking about a really entitled demographic. Insane parking prices aren't going to lead to people not driving in -- people are going to drive in and park obnoxiously, blocking residents and businesses and creating potential safety hazards.
