The freeze-dried street

All you far-western suburban types with your inches of fluffy snow to play in! Feh! Here in the Hub of the Universe, when I went to sleep last night, there were rivers of water streaming down our street and pools of the liquid in front of our house.

This morning? Ice, ice and more ice as far as the eye can see. So Dickie and Harv were right about the flash freeze, if wrong about the timing: Sometime overnight, the temperature suddenly dropped way below freezing and now we're out of salt (not that it was working in the 12-degree temps out there) and our (plastic) shovels are ripped to shreds and I had to sneak in the back door of the car to start it warming up since the front doors wouldn't open and the driveway is a thick sheet of ice and our front steps are so bad our newspaper guy left our paper on the (ice covered) sidewalk and all I can say is: Man, am I glad I can work at home today.

The Celtics WON.

(I know this has nothing to do with the snow and all, but I just had to let it out.)

It was not fluffy! It was heavy as hell! I tried to be smart (like they always say) and "lift with my legs" and today my knees are killing me.

Totally slippery and icy in Melrose, too. I count myself fortunate that I only slipped and fell once. I WISH I could've worked from home today. That would've been fab.

Yeah, I had apparently parked in about 3" worth of ice-puddle, and had a morning equal to being stuck in the mud.

Fortunately, with some patience and a lot of rock salt, I got myself out of there and treated myself to overpriced coffee at Starbucks.

At least the sun is shining...it can only get warmer from here, right?
