Great, now Adrian Walker's filling in for Brian McGrory

Dear Adrian,

You're not Brian McGrory. Please, keep it that way.

Because come on, you mean to tell me that the Very Center of the Universe, a city of 600,000 people, is so absolutely boring that the most compelling thing you found to write about yesterday was Deval Patrick's Cadillac?

What about the cops making $200,000 a year (how do they stay awake during their regular shifts?). What about the city possibly agreeing to end residency requirements for city workers (too lazy to find the link to that story). And then there's this:

A Dorchester man was fatally shot during a confrontation along a busy stretch of Columbia Road yesterday, sending passersby scattering for cover as police chased a suspect, who eluded capture.

But nothing, nothing was more important than how Patrick handled himself at a session with a bunch of whiny reporters who have themselves a story that no longer requires any real work to follow?

Adrian, if I somehow find myself wanting to learn more about Deval Patrick's Failed Term of Office, I'll turn to the Op-Ed section and see what Joan and Scott have to say (hmm, when do you think Royal Ford will be taking the Caddy out for a review?). Please tell me you just had an off day. Please?

Maybe the columnists will attack the police pay ... or, maybe they're afraid if they say anything, the cops will retaliate (I AM!).

I have to disagree with some; I think this story is relevant. I think it shows the character of the man. I was steamed over the first trick he pulled, the $3 million inaugural ball. I mean, really.

Then, there's the $72,000 assistant for his wife, to schedule her appointments.

Guess what, Microsoft makes a wonderful product called "Outlook"? It allows you to put important information into a calendar, which you can then check out, whenever you want, to see if you need to be somewhere.

It's neat! And, under $200, if you buy it as part of MS Office (upgrade).

Or, I'll let you steal my copy, if you want.

"Got me a Cadillac, Cadillac, Cadillac ...
Got me a Cadillac car ...
Oh I got me a Cadillac, Cadillac, Cadillac ...
Look at me mister, I'm a star ...
Look at me mister ... I'm a star ..."

I hear Hub Politics is claiming Deval Patrick took the space shuttle to the Cape and that the drapes in his office at the Statehouse are made of Vicuna so let's at least pretend we're trying to be accurate: the inaugural was supposed to cost about $1.6 million, the campaign raised about $2.2 million, and now about $500,000 is being given to charities.

The assistant to his wife is ludicrous.

Dan Kennedy agrees with Walker, says Patrick better cut the nonsense quick and links to some other bloggers with thoughts on the issue.

I'm not arguing it isn't an issue, I'm just saying I'd rather metro columnists write about stuff actually happening in the city (yes, I realize the State House is in Boston, but you know what I mean) - preferably stuff I haven't already been beaten over the head with for the better part of a week.

Has anyone asked the governor whether the drapes match the carpet? Because that's juvenile and funny. I'm amused just thinking about how he'd answer. Some reporter summed it up nicely on Fox last night. "I have one word for the governor. Ikea."

I think the *real* story at that press conference is the f-bomb bonanza that some of Channel 7's finest journalists threw.

I think we're at the point where we have at least two or three blog posts from local bloggers which are "Metro Section" quality almost every day. If I were a Metro columnist I'd be very very worried.
