Rachael Ray, coffee whore?

No, I wasn't happy to read about Dunkin' Donuts hiring Rachael Ray. But thanks to some people who aren't happy that Rachael Ray even exists, I now know that Rachael Ray may be like Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman," only not as skinny.

In a statement yesterday, Dunkin' Donuts quoted Ray:

"Everyone always asks me how I manage my schedule, and the answer is coffee," said Ray. "Having grown up in the Northeast, I have a long-standing and deep appreciation for Dunkin' Donuts' coffee."

Now look at what she said in an interview before she went on the air with a daytime show earlier this year:

Question: Where do you get the time and energy to do all that you do?

Rachel Ray: Starbucks. It helps me find a lot of time in every day. Seriously, it's like everybody else. You get up and you do what you have to do to get your job done. And I love it.

Also see this column (scroll down a bit):

How does this bundle of energy manage to write more than a dozen cookbooks, host several TV shows on the Food Network, keep a whirlwind speaking tour AND launch a new daytime talker?

"Starbucks," she snorted. "It helps me find a lot of time, and you just reorganize."

America, Dunkin, HUH?

Tim Hortons is taking over the world, but Dunkin pulled out of the Pacific Northwest eons ago. I just shake my head when those ads come on. America? Only if the east coast of the US is "America". West of Worcester issues with that.

New England runs on Pink and Orange at every turn, but the US most certainly does not!

Maybe Starbuquitous is what is in LA, but head to SFO and north and you don't HAVE to - local joints in Seattle and Portland and SFO are the berries. Only the tourists go to Starbucks (or "Seattle's Best Corporate Marketing Job" in central Seattle. There is vastly much better to be had. Conversely, my Seattle friends touring other places seem to seek out Starbuquitous outlets - even if they won't go near it at home.

Then there's the price leader - Tim Hortons. Invasion of the Canadian Comfort Food. Mmmmm ... Timbits ... mmmm. That's what the donut boys are afraid of!

NOTE: There are a couple of totally excellent donut places here in Mefuh - Donuts with a Difference and Demets. Go there if you are headed on a northbound adventure. Wayyy better than dunkies!

not fair

I think I know SwirlyGrrl from offline places; if so, she's quite a level-headed person. (And she should e-mail me, if I'm correct.)
