He'll never make a deposit at this bank

Steve Nadis doesn't think his neighborhood improved when a Videosmith was replaced by a sperm bank for Harvard men.

The Cryobank has been in its

The Cryobank has been in its location for more than 10 years and have been good neighbors. They clearly could afford the rent in Cambridge and Videosmith (seems to have gone completely out of business at least in the Boston area-the Brookline location closed down a few years ago) would not. And if high Cambridge rents and competition from Blockbuster didn't kill it, competition from YouTube and Netflix defuinitely would have. Most people in any neighborhood would be hard pressed to name in independent video store.

Sperm banks in general are selective about their donors more due to the demands of the people who recieve the donations than anything else. Much like many people who adopt want babies or small children with no birth defects, many of the recipients want what they perceive as the 'best genetic material' and attendence at an elite school of higher education seems to signify that.

independent video store

I'd call Hollywood Express independent. They are a local chain with three stores in Cambridge and Somerville. One is in Central Square, a short walk from the former Videosmith.

Hollywood Express has

Hollywood Express has definitely held on due to loyal and consistent customers. It's funny because I remember when a location in Cambridge moved into the old Terra Cotta space-I made it a point to avoid it. However things change and again, much like the Cryobank, Hollywood Express has been a good neighbour.
