No more Saturdays

No more Saturdays, indeed!

The Holy Name rotary in West Roxbury has become THE place to put up portable signboards, like this one alerting us to the fact that this year, spring yard-waste pickups will be on the same day as recycling pickups. It's right next to the Boston Police flashing signboard that advises motorists to "Say Hi to Your Neighbors."

Off The Main Subject...

There used to be a dry-cleaner in Quincy with a sign that read as follows:

SAME DAY, EVERY DAY
EVEN SATURDAY

I think I know what he meant, but it always seemed to me that this could have been a desperate cry for help from a particularly depressed pants-presser.

The rotary looks really

The rotary looks really pretty this Spring with the exception of the two signs. I see the need to notify the public of the change in yard waste pickup. However, the sign that says "Lock Doors"? PUHLEEZ! Get rid of it! It's a blight, and I'm sorry, the residents of the Parkway don't need to be told to lock their doors. Some choose not to lock their doors but everyone knows that Safety 101 dictates keeping the doors locked.

Door locking

Yeah, I noticed yesterday that sign is no longer cycling through a series of messages and is instead, um, locked on that one message. Normally, I'd agree with you, but maybe the police are getting tired of having to explain to West Roxbury residents that this isn't 1955 any more and they have to lock their doors at night.
