Hey, Henry: I'm in ur space raisin' ur blood pressure

Don't even think of parking here

Another Roslindale resident whispered the news: Things, bad things, happen to people who park on South Street in front of Henry's Market. Never mind that it's a public street and it's not like there's ever a tremendous shortage of parking at this somnolent crossroads.

Last night, the kidlet and I dared fate - and Henry. We'd set out in search of barbecue at BBQ Town on Washington Street, but it was closed, so we doubled back to the Checkmate Cafe, a couple doors down from Henry's. Wouldn't you know it? There was a space right in front of Henry's sign. So I pulled in, whipped out my camera and took the shot. And got the kidlet all worried: "What if he comes out? What if they tow our car?!?" Hah! Nobody messes with us, right? In any case, we exited the Checkmate 10 minutes later - and our car was still there, untouched.

Christos, another non-chain convenience store all of half a block away, used to have signs with backwards Rs.

That stylized G is pretty darn funky, I have to admit.

Though I do feel bad for a store which presumes to have only one customer in it at a time.
