Is lunch in the sun with a new elderly friend interesting?
Are you interested in direct service volunteering but can't make a long commitment? Volunteer with Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly!
Our organization provides companionship to the low-income elderly without family and friends in Boston. We need volunteers (individuals and groups) for a variety of programs: social events and parties, office work, yard work, and Telephone Reassurance calls to our elders. We are friendly and willing to work around your interests and availability! This is a particularly great opportunity for people who can only volunteer a couple of hours a month.
If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of our elders, please contact Perry Salmanovich, Volunteer Coordinator, at 617-524-8882 or
Upcoming opportunities include:
i.) Making telephone reassurance calls from LBFOE to check in and support our elder.
ii.) We greatly need drivers to provide a friendly escort for our more mobile elders to and from our offices from areas you already know, work in, live in and visit to celebrate upcoming Father's Day events on Saturday June 16 who are unable to drive themselves.
iii.) Help be a party driver or kitchen helper to prepare brunch/luncheon for our more mobile elders
* Sat. July 7th,
* Wed. July 18th,
* Sat. July 28th,
* Sat. August 11th,
* Wed. August 29th,
* Sat. September 8th
* Wed. September 26th
to make these events a success.
iv.) We also need volunteers with daytime availability to pickup elders to bring them to our celebrations, or doctors appointments or help with light errands.
Skills
In order to be matched with an elder person, Little Brothers/Friends of the Elderly–Boston complies with state regulations that requests information from the Criminal History Systems Board pursuant to Chapter 6 §172C that mandates agencies which accept such individual as a volunteer.
Simply, we require volunteers to complete a CORI. As well, the agency also requires two references.
If you plan to become a driver (See item iv.- i.e.`party driver') for our events in which volunteers pick up elders to bring them to our JP location we also require a copy of the first page of insurance and a copy of a persons drivers license.
For more information, to be properly CORI screened and then matched, any further questions, or to simply discuss, please contact Perry at 617-524-8882
Volunteers under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
