Standing up for the 6 House

It's the South Boston bar where that poor guy got stabbed to death over a spilled beer. Angela spent nearly a year working there and writes that the Herald is just wrong in the way it portrays the place:

... It wasn't filled with Irish mobsters, stabbings are not a regular occurrence and if anything, it's a yuppie bar. Yes, I said it - YUPPIES. Young Urban Professionals. Preps. White collar pukes. Trust fund babies. Whatever you want to call them. Tell me, where else do you find a young 20-something ask, "what types of ales do you have," or request that his drink be served, "neat." ...

I am not trying to make light of the death of a 26 year-old. It’s a horrible story and a young guy was killed, but the owners of The Six House are good guys. ... I think it's a little harsh to shut the place down, putting 15 good people out of work because a bunch of assholes, who probably got wasted at other bars, decided to finish their night at the Six House and cause trouble. ...

sweetie.no matter what you may want to believe that bar strikes fear into anyone that lived through the days of whitey bulgers reign of terror.i believe the bar was onced owned and operated by a gentleman named o'neill who was quite chummy with mr bulger.louis litif was a bookie and they served him neatly too.he was chopped up in the basement and taken out in trash bags.when i was a kid running around southie there were certain places you did not go and this bar was one of those places.from what i hear the bar is still owned(or at least the property is) by mr o'neill. sorry you lost your job but think of all the pain that place brings to all those poor bastards that drive by it 2-3 times a day and wonder what happened to an uncle or brother or cousin that walked into triple o's and was never heard from again.tear the bitch down.

I understand the building's legacy and I was told the stories of what happened downstairs, but it's unfair to penalize two young guys (both owners are in their thirties), who are trying to run a business and blame them for the horrors that occurred years ago. No Mr. O'Neill.

From what I understand, they went to Triple O's (or whatever it's called now) after being at a going away party w/ about 200 ppl. The party was busted by the police and then they went to the bar in Southie to continue partying.

When the police come it's time for everyone to go nite-nite. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

I'm glad to see that a lot of folks realize that the Herald is just trying to sell papers. I have been bresident DJ at the 6 House for the past two years, and I would like to confirm that the spirit of Whitey Bulger did not rise through the floor boards of that bar; an evil spirit did not possess somebody to kill in cold blood; and what happened (though tragic) could have happened at another bar in Southie. West Broadway host dozens of bars attended by the same clientele. The 6 House has the distinct disadvantage of being a last call bar because they are, geographically, the last bar on West Broadway... the last stop in the neighborhood, and ineveitably, the place were people are going to be most drunk. Again, it's really terrible that this had to happen at the 6 House, but the 6 House does not have a monopoly on assholes who feel the need to prove themselves.

As if what happened isn't bad enough.. "The Media" nees to add to the story with comments about "Whitey Bulger" and say the 6House is a blood bucket blah blah blah.. ok something terrible happened. .. write about it... why try to make it an even bigger story buy adding things that have absolutely nothing to do with the incident. such as Sean Linehan getting stabbed outside the Teriyaki house... I guess a ghost of Whitey had something to do with that too??...

Hold on folks.....

The word around town is Adam Rich was quite a bully himself. Before he landed at the 6 house he was booted out of the Southie Yacht Club and The Playright for starting trouble (word is he was walking around in a wife beater flexing his muscles and staring patrons down).

His Myspace page got littered by a few irate folks from Revere claiming he got what he deserved. Apparently, Adam liked to throw his weight around and was notorious for throwing sucker punches and starting fights.

The spilled drink theory seems like a crock of sh&t to me.

While Adam's behavior (if true) was cowardly.... it's still no reason for him to have lost his life. And my heart does truely go out to his loved ones.

My question, if warranted....Why would this kid walk into a South Boston bar and decide to be a hard ass?

It's as foolish as a whiteboy like myself walking into Roxbury and shouting the N word thinking I could knock out anyone who stood in my path.

Growing up in these parts taught me never to go looking for trouble....even though I feel I can handle myself properly if needed....it's for defense....that's it. You never know who you might be starting trouble with and if they will fight toe to toe....fairly.

The days of settling your differences with some man to man fisticuffs then shaking hands after are over. It's quite sad, but foolish to think otherwise.

No matter how much you lift at the gym or how invincible you may feel....there's always some sociopath willing and able to take you out.

Okay, so maybe two asshole bullies are in a bar and get into a fight ... and the bar is to blame how? Sounds to me like the Yacht Club has far more to answer for here if the cops had to break up a party.

If 6 House served drinks to visibly intoxicated patrons, they have something to answer for and some explaining to do. Otherwise, I think the question of whether or not Adam Rich "had it coming" has little or nothing to do with the bar being shut down.
