Alleged cat burner also alleged man stabber, kidnapper

Luigi Epifania, 23, of East Boston, already charged with attempted arson and malicious killing of an animal, was also arraigned yesterday on charges of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

According to prosecutors, on June 11, Epifania stabbed a 22-year-old Andover man in an East Boston alleyway, then forced him to a Saratoga Street home, where he beat the man and threatened to kill him. The man managed to escape.

Two days later, prosecutors allege, Epifania put a cat in a bag, doused the bag with lighter fluid, set the bag and cat on fire, then threw them through the first-floor window of a home on Princeton Street. The cat died.

Officials are still looking for motives in the two cases.

Epifania was ordered held on $25,000 cash bail on the attempted-murder charge and $5,000 on the attempted-arson/cat-killing charge.
