Sadly, they call it

Sadly, they call it "Muggles" for a reason.

That's a fact.

The fact that the suspects knew the victim and intended to harm him is exactly the way it is most of the time. Most murders are committed by and against people who know each other and have some sort of a vendetta going on between them, or it can be in the midst of a heated argument between two people known to each other. Crimes of passion are what most murders also are. The advent of guns makes murder much, much more likely. It's true that parents could/should do more to control their children, but there has to be more police protection. The fact that Bush has cut funding for police and sent many of our police over to our war in Iraq has also made things worse, plus the cutting out of funding for summer programs for teens, and, the proliferation of handguns. It's sad, indeed. Ruggles isn't even safe for those who live there, either.

Parents vs Police

C'mon parents have a HUGE role in this. Look at the poor 8 year old killed, the parents were protecting the gang member whose gun was used. They lied to the dozens of police who arrived to help. The police can only do so much. They cannot enter homes and see who has guns/drugs in their bedrooms. Parents CAN and need to. The sixteen year old in Randolph had a gun. His family was on the news this morning calling HIM a victim. I think they might be better off having a dictionary than a gun!

In that case, the parents have more than just a huge role in

this whole mess. They abetted the situation by protecting the gang member who the gun belonged to. The parents should also be jailed, along with the killer of the child.

No one said jail

But how are they more responsible for this child's death than Bush? (Please explain that statement)

The mom lied and admitted to it. (And no, I cannot imagine anyone wants her jailed). But how silly are you to cry for a police state? What can the police do? Two of the fathers of her six childern are in prison and one of her son's gun killed her son (at the hand of a 7 year old who was up and playing at 11pm on a weekday). How are the police at fault? How can they find the guns when a baby is killed and the family clams up and lies about it???

Please tell me what are the police supposed to do??? If we had thousands of police on every corner would you feel safer??

Here's one solution:

Stricter gun control laws and pollcies would definitely be in order here. This kind of incident strongly
underscores why guns really do not belong in civilians' hands.
