The bicycle non-thief

Elizabeth Albritton noticed an interesting sign at a Hyde Square tree where a bike used to be chained (e-mail address is not blanked out on the actual paper):

Takes bike, but leaves e-mail address in case the owner wants to claim the bike that had gone unclaimed for three months

Abandoned bikes

By daveAdams | Sun, 07/01/2007 - 1:45pm

There's a very weird, very cool group of bike riders in the Somerville area called S.C.U.L. At least on a couple of occasions, some SCUL members have been known to abandon funky "craft" (modified bikes) in hopes that someone will take them and join the weird-bike-riding world. At least I'm pretty certain that there was a SCUL creation loosely locked up near the Store 24 in Davis Square for a month or more about a year or so ago.

But I don't know whether JP has been graced by visitation by SCUL, so I have no idea whether this is related. I love the message left by the non-thief.

I wonder if that's who I saw

I wonder if that's who I saw at Porter Square yesterday? About ten folks on bicycles, but not just regular bicycles...two of them were about eight feet tall, and the others were decked out in various shiny and brightly colored ways.

sounds like it

That absolutely sounds like a description of SCUL, especially if it was in the evening or nighttime. (SCULers don't like to get up early.)

Yeah, it was a little after

Yeah, it was a little after 7. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, smiling and waving at passersby.
