Losing their freedom on Independence Day

BPDNews today is filled with the sort of stupid carnage you normally associate with really hot days:

A man allegedly tired of people parking in front of his house on Cygnet Street in Brighton took decisive action yesterday evening - When yet another person parked in front of his house, he started throwing bricks at his car. Police report arresting Wei Chin, 25, "after a brief struggle."

Look out, Eastie: They've got machetes in Roslindale, too. Two guys who'd been drinking steadily since 11 a.m. got into a fight around 7 p.m. when one of them began to suspect the other was fooling around with his woman. Police report he got out a machete and took a swing. In the melee that ensued, both men got cut and wound up being transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Francisco Correa, 52, of Roslindale was arrested and charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon.

Speaking of Eastie, police also report that a July Fourth discussion on Webster Street on the relative merits of two guys' home countries ended a bit abruptly when one of them allegedly smashed the other one in the nose with a Corona bottle. Walter E. Guillen, 23, of East Boston was arrested and charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon

Finally, a 14-year-old Dorchester lad was put in the pokey on a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute - after police noticed him bicycling with a friend down Washington Street with some fireworks in his back pocket:

Both individuals were stopped and asked if they possessed any contraband to which both replied negatively. Officers then pointed out to one of the two stopped individuals that fireworks could clearly be seen protruding from his pocket. ...
