Go, Speed Racer, go - Just not in Roslindale
By adamg on Fri, 07/13/2007 - 10:47am
The things you miss by going to bed at a decent hour: The Roslindale Transcript reports that drag racers from as far away as Brockton and Chelsea have been racing down Washington Street. Police ordered the Emporium (yes, Roslindale has a gas station/general store called the Emporium), where they'd been staging the races, to shut down at midnight. The racers have now moved to the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, where police worry a driver might bounce over a curb and wind up in somebody's parlor (as opposed to Washington Street, where a driver might bounce over a curb and wind up in somebody's parlor).

It hasn't stopped them
Just last night, I woke up to what sounded like the mother of all mosquitoes. It was racers screaming down Washington and back up Kittredge to start again.
Drag Racing
I live near the Truman Parkway and I could hear regular NASCAR races down the Parkway. On Memorial Day, a Hyde Parker was killed on 95 in North Attleboro. His car had a fin on the trunk and police say speed was a factor. Ironically, it has been quieter since.
The State Police will, on occassion, do a traffic stop, but on a Friday morning at 10am!
