Jesus H. Christ, this is shameful!!

Boston's one of the brainiest cities in the United States, and in the world, and only blogs such as this can be and are produced, that're totally intolerant of different styles of posting, and people who disagree with them. A lot of you transplanted midwesterners on here are so anxious to blend in and act like so-called "true" Bostonians/Bay Staters, that you come off as being exactly what you are---outsiders! It's no wonder that a lot of the true local yokels around here really can't stand you! Sometimes, I wish you'd go back to the midwest, where ya came from--and stay there!!

Wow!

I don't know what this is about, but this is certainly not the type of thing I would expect from a true progressive!

You should celebrate diversity and embrace those people who are different from you even if they are ... shudder ... from the Midwest!

Perhaps you need to be a bit more tolerant and inclusive ...

You're not such a progressive either, Weebs,

By independentminded | Sat, 07/21/2007 - 2:33am

judging from your posts on here.

Srsly.

By eeka | Sat, 07/21/2007 - 11:13am

I don't know what Miki's post is all about, but I agree that this post is probably more annoying and judgmental than whatever posts it was written in response to.

Sure, I've seen the "anonymous"es who make stupid one-liners about how all of us need a life or a job or whatever, and they're annoying, but hardly that big of a deal. I have no idea how Miki has decided that they're from the midwest, and I'm not sure that a few generic snide comments warrant starting a whole post complete with profanity and screaming at people to go back where they came from.

Oh you are so independent

Oh you are so independent minded, independentminded. For being from such a brainy city, it's amazing that you can't follow the basic rules of grammar. Oh wait, that's just me being intolerant of different styles of posting. Sorry, dude.

Why.....thank you, sweet-ass IndianaRules!!

sad but true

By lynn | Sat, 07/21/2007 - 8:37am

there are a lot of people on the internet who find blog comment trolling funny and cool. Damned if I know why, but that's the way it is. At one point I had to install a different way of commenting and stats software to keep some rather nasty/offensive/threatening comments off my personal blog.

can someone please explain

can someone please explain the origin of all this hostility?

As one of the transplanted Midwesterners you're probably talking about, I can assure you that we do have the Interweb tubes in the Midwest as well, and my returning there would in no way stop me from continuing to post.

(If this has anything to do with anything that happened in the last two days, I was on an Interwebs fast so nobody ruined Harry Potter for me. And they didn't. Yay.)

In the Majority

By Gareth | Mon, 07/23/2007 - 10:09am

I am a Midwestern transplant, and a Canadian transplant, and a Northwestern transplant, and a Southern transplant. But most important of all, the transplants are completed, and my roots have been growing here in Massachusetts, where my wife was born, my son was born, and my mother and brother both live as well, for longer than I have lived everywhere else combined.

I've called Massachusetts home since I was 16, and came to the state for college. I loved Boston at first sight, and live here by choice, not by accident of birth. As a Bostonian who was born elsewhere, I am a proud member of the majority living here in Boston.

Anxious to blend in, my butt. I'm blending in fine with my Bostonian friends from Michigan, Vermont, New York, Ukraine, Brazil, Algeria, Texas, the DR... I'd only stick out if I were actually born here.

Hey, man, we know you're not originally from Boston either. So you don't have to try to out-yokel everybody. We're not going to tell you to go back to your chi-chi suburbs. We understand why you like Boston better than Lincoln.

Gareth:

By independentminded | Mon, 07/23/2007 - 3:40pm

I'm not trying to out-yokel anybody, Gareth. You're not one of the ones I was referring to. Moreover, I'm not about to mention names, because the posters here that I was referring to know precisely who they are, so you can just relax.

As one of the posters to

By Mollynotloggedin (not verified) | Mon, 07/23/2007 - 8:43pm

As one of the posters to whom you were referring, I do find it interesting that you feel the need to belittle the Midwest when you have ties there.

Also remember, everyone, if not for the Midwest, your groceries would be considerably more expensive.

Well....

By independentminded | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 12:22pm

"if not for the Midwest, your groceries would be considerably more expensive."

That could very well be, but food's getting awfully expensive anyhow.

True, dat.

By Mollynotloggedin (not verified) | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 1:07pm

True, dat.

Ooh! Ooh! Am I the other?

By eeka | Mon, 07/23/2007 - 10:33pm

...because I know you think Molly and I are the same person and all, but I'm not from the midwest.

But hey, if the handful of comments I've made to you in the past year warrant my very own post, complete with savior references, then I guess I feel honored. Or something.

http://1smootshort.blogspot.com

No....

By independentminded | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 12:20pm

I know that you and Molly are not the same person. Believe it or not, I'm saavy enough to have figured that out a long, long time ago. I know you're from Seattle, but didn't you also spend time in Minnesota at some point? I realize that not all Midwesterners/westerners are snobbish or whatever, and I tend to go overboard a little bit sometimes, but why don't you take a harder look at what you're doing, sometimes, and think about why some people might take it into their minds to retaliate when you get nasty sometimes? Hmmmm?

Heh

By Mollystillnotloggedin (not verified) | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 1:08pm

Pot, meet kettle.

Miki?

By eeka not logged in (not verified) | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 2:14pm

Is there something you actually wanted to address with me, or did you just want to throw vague boldfaced insults around?

You guys realize this is a public forum, right?

By adamg | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 2:23pm

Right?

Sure...

By eeka not logged in (not verified) | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 2:31pm

...but since the original post remains here, I'd assumed this meant you were fine with the "discussion." My apologies.

Let me show you my petty

By Mollynotloggedin (not verified) | Tue, 07/24/2007 - 2:35pm

Let me show you my petty spats.

My petty spats, let me show you them.

Well, to make this relatively short....

By independentminded | Wed, 07/25/2007 - 1:28am

too often I feel that I have to watch what I post or write about here on this blog very, very carefully, becase, eeka, it seems that you're always there to make a dig. It's really totally unnecessary and uncalled for and I feel put on the defensive, to boot. Having a condescending, insulting attitude towards me because of my different style of posting, my differences of opinons on some issues, and writing about other things besides happenings in Boston which also give me pleasure is totally unnecessary also.

Also, what's wrong with saying "thanks" to another blogger who has been helpful and/or supportive in some way or other? Nothing, as far as I'm concerned, either.

Didn't Adam ask us to stop

By Mollynotloggedin (not verified) | Wed, 07/25/2007 - 11:02am

Didn't Adam ask us to stop this/take it to e-mail?

P.S. Adam, the math question I just got is "What is 1+0?" I'm not asking to be asked to solve theorems, but really, that's a little insulting. ;)

P.P.S. Yes, I know Adam doesn't have control over the questions. I think I'm funny. This opinion under the sole control of mollynotloggedin, all rights reserved. Void where prohibited.

In the first place, molly, stop being a hypocrite.

By independentminded | Wed, 07/25/2007 - 10:03pm

In the second place, when I was constantly under attack by you and your girlfriend on the other forum, not a single person, including the proprietor/owner of the forums came to my defense. In the third place, I'm answering a question that was asked me by another poster, and I'm being honest by answering it. Also, I don't happen to have the emails of anybody here on universalhub.com
Finally, it's probably better to get it out in the open, no matter how bitter it is, which I did.

The word you want is "spouse"

1) What eeka said re: "spouse".

2) You can find my and eeka's e-mail in the same place on the other forum that they've always been.

3) You do realize that the owner/proprietor of the other forum is the same person as the owner/proprietor of this forum, right? Why would you expect a sea change when there's so much overlap.

4) Not everybody who's posted here arguing with you is me or eeka. Believe it or not.
