Joanne Woodward captured a couple of people waiting for copies in Harvard Square last night. More of her photos.

Maria Varmazis photographed the line outside the Harvard Coop

and Hogwarts Square in general:

As it got closer to midnight, Mass Ave in the entire Harvard area was completely swamped with people. I've never ever seen this area so crowded.

Idle Mutterings gets the last copy at the Cambridgeside Galleria Borders:

... I decided that I didn't want to stand on line in Harvard for 2 hours to wait another hour to get the book there. We heard later that a random little newsstand had books and was able to sell it to people in a matter of minutes. Bleh. Andrew bought his copy at midnight at Village Books in Roslindale:

I'm just over a hundred pages into it. But the most Hogwarts-hungry person in the house has just woken up, so that might be about as far as I get tonight ...

Zolok wonders in Harvard Square:

[It's] is a bracing reminder of the old Harvard Square...full of oddly dressed gawkers and buskers of all descriptions...a real mob scene.

One thing I don't get though, if "Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows" is supposed to be a kid's book, then why are so many college co-eds tarted up in sexy schoolgirl costumes? ...

Spatch reports his cat has strange abilities.

Only in Boston, Kids curses the New York Times for revealing parts of the book:

... Is it because they believe they're above it all scrutiny, and they act like snotty prep school kids who manage to ruin everything that's not to their liking? ...
