Gateway
I saw Kevin in the shop just a few months ago. He was worried about the effect of the Staples that plopped down nearby on his mom-and-pop staionery store, and had recently started selling hats and other fashion accoutrements to make up for the lost sales.
It's a shame if Gateway really went out of business -- it's been there forever, and Kevin had entrenched himself as a member of the community in the way that no chain store ever can.
re: Gateway
I noticed yesterday, during Mr. Butch's procession, that Gateway is no more. What a loss to that neighborhood. I knew Kevin for many years, one of the nicest guys in Allston, but would also put up with NO bullsh-t in his store. How can a "neighborhood" survive without a newsstand?
