Naomi Campbell has nothing on Mason Reese

Dunkin' Donuts can tart itself up all it wants, but to some of us, THIS (and, of course, the immortal Fred), will always be what Dunk's is really about:

Ed. ugly kid note: What in God's name possessed me to look for this? When I saw Amy's note about the kid in the Verizon commercials, I thought, "that's not ugly, I'll show you ugly!"

What Did You Bring ME?

By SwirlyGrrl (not verified) | Thu, 08/02/2007 - 11:06am

Does anybody else remember those signs from the(was it MA? NY? NJ?) Pike rest areas in the Mid-80s? With the snotty and evil looking little girl with braids and a psychotic leering face saying "What did you bring me?" and the ad copy "Don't disappoint them - our gift shop has gifts for all ages".

I swear the ad agency was sabotaging some idiot bureaucrat with those. Seriously. Either that or they were aimed at insecure bratwhipped babyboomers and not my punkgeek 17 year old self. They also had comments on them like "What you always wanted: A SPANKING" and "Nothing you mercenary brat".

Now THOSE were UGLY KID ads for the ages!

I saw Mason Reese in a bar on the upper West Side of NYC a few years back. I was with a bunch of friends from the Philly area, and they has no idea who he was. BTW, he's looked exactly the same, only bigger all around.

Mason is my nowman

Mason is a great guy, loves a great party.

Short, though, terribly short.

Was it just me, or were those kids just jamming the munchkins into their front teeth, not biting them?

I guess I'm a bit young for Mason Reese, I had to go look him up. In the process I found this though!

Good Lord, Man!

That is seriously frightening. But those freaky kids have nothing on Rachel Ray.

I didn't remember him doing a DD commercial, just Underwood Deviled Ham. That weird laugh he did at the end is all stuck in my head now. Thanks. You're a pal.

I saw him in NYC too

This had to be 20 years back though. He was taking stuff out of a car trunk parked near NYU and arguing with who I assume were his parents. And yup, he was bigger and older, but you could tell it was Mason! Hard to believe what anyone ever saw in the kid. If you needed a kid in the 1970's, why not just go cute with a Rodney Allen Rippey instead?

I'm always fascinated by what all those "Where Are They Now?" folks do for money long after their time in the sun is gone...

Still adorable!

Kind of helps Rodney Allen Rippy that he is still adorable and he's still got whatever it is he always had. Yes, he's grown it up a bit, but he's still got that certain positive shine to him.

I never got Mason Reese either, and I'm only (exactly) two years younger. While there were no DDs in my childhood so I didn't see those ads (McDonalds - 80 miles away through the pass that closed seasonally) we did have the underwear deviled ham ads. I always thought the kid was a Troll baby and called him "that troll kid" when getting to actually see network TV at my grandparents' house. (Flip Wilson? Right?)

Mason Reese

Twas just wondering about him and found this blog. I assume his people invested the money he made from the commercials he did as a child and that is what is keeping him these days. When I first saw Bruce Vilanch (comedian), I thought he might be Mason all grown up (bleach blonde hair). I always liked Mason in his commercials, liked his voice (I hate sqeaky high children's voices; like fingernails across a blackboard to me). He was a welcome relief from all those precocious, cutsey kids pitching on other commercials and in the movies. He did his job well (I still buy Underwood although I usually just stick it in my earthquake emergency kit and the cats think it's french pate. When I lived in NY, I remember seeing Mason getting out of a [cab--I think it was a cab but it might have been a towncar--it's been a while] with a matronly looking woman in front of my building (upper west side); she was holding his hand tightly and seemed to be lecturing him. I felt sorry for him because he was a young kid making money for a bunch of grown-ups. How did he get into acting and commercials?
