Brighton residents charged with beating up cabbie who dared demand they pay their fare

Tyler Kanaval, 23 and Michelle Mikalsen, 18, were arrested shortly after 2:30 this morning, on charges of armed robbery, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and assault and battery, Boston Police report:

On arrival, officers spoke with the taxi driver who stated that he was transporting both suspects to Commonwealth Avenue and Washington Street and as he was asking for payment both suspect become violent. The victim stated that the suspects grabbed him and dragged him out of his taxicab when the second suspect jumped into the drivers seat and tried to drive the taxicab away. At that time the victim jumped in and removed the keys from the ignition. The victim further stated that while down on the ground both suspects were kicking him before they fled on foot.

Honestly, the cab driver's doing an honest day's work and trying to survive and make a living the best he can and these thugs have the nerve to beat him up for demanding that they pay the fare? These thugs ought to go to jail for assault and battery--for a long time.

Too many Massachusetts judges think it's mean to put violent offenders in prison. They can't lock up gun-toting gang members for more than a few months at a time.

Must make the cops on the street feel real good about their jobs when they arrest the same guy for armed robbery two months after arresting him for aggravated assault.

Don't hold your breath waiting for these punks to do any serious time, if they do any at all.

Oh, wait...it's George Bush's fault. I forgot.
