Second death tied to road rage in two days, this time in the South End

Jenn Martinelli writes that a fatal car/bike collision happened right outside her office on Tremont in the South End yesterday morning, and that a co-worker who saw the incident reported:

...[T]he driver of the car was acting like a raving nutcase and before she hit and killed the guy on the bike, she flattened a bus stop sign and sped down a one-way pullout (parallel to the road - like most of Comm Ave) the wrong way, taking out several parked cars. ...

Earlier:

I'm still hoping that someday dangerous driving stops being viewed as some kind of "cute" part of our culture worth chuckling about, and is actually perceived as the threat it truly is.

that lead to this kind of dangerous driving are so deeply ingrained into the fabric of our society and culture that I honestly don't see much hope of this sort of change occurring anytime soon. Last night, I was driving back from a midnight movie at Coolidge Theatre at around two a. m., and other drivers were speeding, speeding, speeding all around me. I just drove the way I normally do--conservatively. They're crazier than loons, these speeders, and they'll pay for it in more ways than one someday, as a lot of these lunatics do.

All this being said, the only problems is that they often take others with them. Sickening, sad and pathetic.

Bush did have his buddies work very very hard to expunge his drunk driving record - an even more of them worked even harder to harass the attorney who revealed the public records of his automotive dipsomania.

It's the culture of today's Democratic party, the abolition of personal responsibility in our society, and the never-ending goal to further American's reliance on the government for their every want and need.

Hey, kids, there's no need to take responsibility for getting a decent education. The Democrats will guarantee you a "living wage" even if you drop out of tenth grade.

No need to take responsibility for your own safety, just call 911 and the police will save you. Maybe.

No need to take responsibility for having kids when you have no husband or job to pay for their upbringing, the Democrats will give you all the healthcare and handouts you need.

No need to take responsibility for the gang violence plaguing Boston's inner city neighborhoods, your mayor will simply blame New Hampshire and Vermont for his ineptitude.

No need to take responsibility for heeding evacuation orders in the days leading up to a major natural disaster, the government, led by "compassionate" Democrats will give you whatever you need.

And, the best part is, it's all FREE!!!!

YAY!!!!!!

Now, just keep staring into the hypnodisc and everything will be just fine.

Seriously, girl, wake the f*** up.

It's amazing to hear someone try to blame "abolition of personal responsibility" on the Democratic party, when the national Republican party's sole agenda these days is to protect miserably incompetent hacks who've screwed their jobs up, because they're needed to obstruct investigations into how the Bush administration has 1) turned the government into a dissent-stifling, members-only corruption club that rivals Cuba or Nigeria and 2) started a stupid useless war and failed to run it as anything more than a corporate giveaway, killing tons of people.

Republicans are all about personal responsibility for everyone but themselves and their own choices.

Seriously, take off the blinders and get real. You don't live in the wilderness; you live in a society with other people. You don't live off the land; you live in an economy where nearly every profession would be useless without the other people in all the other professions. You may think that everything a person does, including yourself, is their or your own choice; in reality there are parameters and incentives that go into choices that are out of an individual's control. You may think that when a poor person cheats a government program it's stealing from the taxes you pay; corporations and the rich cheat government programs at far greater cost and try to get away with it by misdirecting attention and anger to caricatures of those poor people.

And you seem to think you're a realist and the people you're criticizing are living in fantasyland. Well, wake the f*** up yourself, and stop playing Davey Crockett.

You wake the fuck up. I have to call BS on what you're saying here. Don't blame everything on the Democrats. Already horrific situations such as the above-mentioned ones weren't caused the Republicans and G. W. Bush, they've been undoubtedly made much, much worse because of them.

Noelle Bush, his daughter, has been involved in DUI's, and Laura Bush also has a history of killing somebody in another car when she ran a STOP sign while drunk. So, I disagree with you again on personal responsibility, which nobody's absolved of, imo.

Say this woman was shooting at a racoon or a rat and began spraying people with bullets. She would have been INSTANTLY arrested. Go on a speeding and murdering spree with a motor vehicle and CUE THE EXCUSES!

Massachusetts doesn't bother to test its drivers to begin with, and never expects any more out of them.

Unfortunately, it seems "blinded by the sun" and "my car broke and I couldn't stop" and all sorts of b.s. drivers give when they KILL PEOPLE WITH THEIR HEAVY EQUIPMENT are de rigur. People have been run down in crosswalks in areas of MA and the police chiefs have reversed or refused to charge them because "the pedestrian shouldn't have been in the road" WTF!!

Cars are heavy equipment. Massachusetts is an urban planning nightmare and road condition hell hole. Drivers should be forced to pass a comprehensive test to get licensed - on and off the road - and then PASS a written re-test and simulator exam EACH TIME they renew. Killing somebody with a car in an indiscriminate rampage should carry the same penalties and the same concern as indiscriminate gun or knife carnage - or any other form of murder or manslaughter. Vehicular manslaughter? Why the qualification? I think we'd have a few fewer loonies even out there if, you know, this state actually required people to prove themselves worthy of the privilege on a regular basis.

should we allow illegals to obtain licenses?

because anyone who drives a car should be properly licensed.

so people who are not supposed to be in this country should be given licenses? that would make the streets much more dangerous

Well, on paper anyway, as a state issues it. Many states have stopped accepting them and demand retests because MA perennially scores in the toilet when it comes to driver knowledge.
