Colorful umbrellas

Greg Hum reports that last night, he took part in the Umbrella Project, a collaboration between MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab and the Pilobolus dance troupe, in which participants were given umbrellas outfitted with LEDs and then directed by Pilobolus members in a large outdoor "display of live art."

The lost lion of the Back Bay

Lost lion

On ArchBoston, Billski wonders what happened to the rooftop lion atop the Kensington Building on Boylston Street, which sat where the Darth Vader building now broods over the avenue. The lion's two street-level companions were relocated to the Copley Plaza, but does anybody know what happened to Lion 3? One presumes he is not prowling the rooftops of Boston, since a giant swan remains perched atop the Park Plaza.

More photos of the lion and his mates at street level.

Signs? Who needs signs?

Tow job

They were towing cars off Copenger Street on Mission Hill today, apparently for getting in the way of street sweepers. Only problem, AMO notes, is that the signs declare "No Parking" for the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month and today is the third Wednesday.

Foot-dangling maintenance worker briefly causes downtown traffic jam

Look at the traffic on North Street.Look at the traffic on North Street.

Shortly before 9 a.m., firefighters and police responded to 16 North St., which houses the UBurger across from Faneuil Hall Marketplace, on a report of a guy on the roof, just sitting there, dangling his feet off the edge of the building.

Erin B. snapped the resulting traffic jam on North Street, which ended not long after firefighters made their way to the roof and determined the guy was just a maintenance worker doing some maintenance, as maintenance workers are wont to do.

Video of the last runners to finish the Boston Marathon

I was photographing the scene at Heartbreak Hill for Running Times and later moved downtown. I photographed runners a half mile from the finish line for the last 25 minutes before the explosions went off. I decided to put them into a video as a tribute to all of them. (Pretty good song, too). If you know anyone who was at or close to the finish line at 2:50 share it with them.

Uphams Corner is buzzing this afternoon

Bee swarm

UPDATE: Late this afternoon, Best Bees worked with city animal control to relocate the bees someplace better for them - and people.

You can't see the license plate of this car at Stoughton and Sumner streets because IT'S COVERED IN BEES. Live bees. Bees that are probably looking for a more permanent place to live. Like your attic. Photo by OffTheDot, who says:

Definitely live and buzzing! Seemed more into swarming than attacking. Stood on edge of swarm without incident (and no sudden movements).
