I lean toward his cutting a deal that will keep him from getting the death penalty in OK or FL. And I can't imagine running a trial like this, but then again IANAFP.
And who's to say he won't plead a life sentence, then get shivved?
i know he is out (killed 20 people) but maybe they could pick him up for jaywalking or something and throw him into a holding cell with jimmy for a few minutes. that should speed things up nicely.
Whitey is many things but stupid is not one of them. He has pages and pages of dirt on any one and every one. Even if he does not have the information, he will play the FBI like a cheap guitar and convince them to give him a gentleman's sentence. A few years in Federal prison in exchange for junk knowledge.
The girl friend on the other hand, ya she is screwed, this is Whitey we are talking about he will rat out any body.

In all seriousness though, I don't think they really care about a plea deal at this point. He's been in hiding for 15 years, how much can they really learn from him? They don't want to give him any leverage and will want to prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law. The only thing they'd give in on is if there are bodies hidden somewhere that he can tell them about (for the families).
. . . but I hope for a quick but fair trial and a merciful number of idiotic Herald headlines. This guy was the pivot point for some dark dark goings on in this city- while he was largely presented as some roguish robbin hood figure. A lot of people, myself included, acted and voted upon a false narrative for years. What hurts the most about this whole Whitey thing- is that so many institutions I once trusted and respected- were neck deep in these lies and even his crimes.
His capture and future trial are not funny to me in any way. And I DO NOT want to see any movies about this. I will never be "entertained" by this story.
I, myself wouldn't care to see any fictionalized movies made of Whitey Bulger's life, horrendous criminal exploits and his ultimate arrest, but it would be interesting to see an actual documentary (not one of those 'docudramas", mind you!), of Whitey Bulger, with interviews of him, and also with interviews of the surviving families of his victims, and also people who were victims of extortions by Whitey Bulger, as well as interviews of people who worked closely with Whitey Bulger. Such a movie, imho, would be something that many people could/would learn from, and they wouldn't be so ready to root for and glamorize guys like that, even in severe economic downturns.

Maybe Whitey has just found out he's only got a few years left and is looking for the quickest way to get on the government health care program.
