What kind of flower are these?

Ashley spotted these flowers in front of a Fenway apartment building, wonders what kind they are.

Rose? Some varietals have pointed leaves.

Unknown, but it calls to mind a literary excerpt

Our highest assurance of the goodness of Providence seems to me to rest in the flowers. All other things, our powers, our desires, our food, are all really necessary for our existence in the first instance. But this rose is an extra. Its smell and its colour are an embellishment of life, not a condition of it. It is only goodness which gives extras, and so I say again that we have much to hope from the flowers.”
― Arthur Conan Doyle, The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes

Looks like a rose to me (check the leaves). Just has curlier petals than other varieties.

Some form of dahlia would be my wife's best guess!

from the photo, it's a double-bloom, narrow petal, apricot/orange.

Couldn't find it in a brief search, so almost certainly an heirloom variety.

The leaves definitely belong to a rose bush. The blooms look different because the petals have curled back. See this for reference.

Look at the leaves. No idea what variety or even how to describe that color but that's what it is. Dahlias have very different leaves, also mostly not out yet except for some of the smaller potted types.

Here are some possible candidates as to variety. http://aggie-horticulture.tamu.edu/rose/RM%20Rose%20Table.html
