In a public notice about its impending merger with the parent company of the East Boston Savings Bank, Rockland Trust says it will close current East Boston branches in Allston, Brighton (two branches), Chinatown, Dorchester, Mission Hill, Roslindale, West Roxbury, Brookline and Cambridge (two branches), among others. Morning eclipse, with jet

Adam Balsam was among the many people who got up early to get a good view of the eclipse, which in his case meant a trip to Wollaston Beach. At first, it was disappointing, because clouds obscured the show as the sun broke above the horizon, but once the sun rose high enough, the show was on. Read more.

After connecting thick wires to a large slab of concrete, workers jumped off to help steady it as the crane lifted it to the bridge.

After one crew spent last night on equipment that gnawed away the old Needham Line bridge over Robert Street in Roslindale Square, another crew came in this morning to get the new bridge into place and ready for trains on Monday. Read more.

Workers inadvertently opened up a water main on Wyvern Street at Hyde Park Avenue across from Pagel Playground and now BWSC is on scene trying to plug the hole and restore the water flow. It's the same basic location where a National Grid gas main burst into flames on New Year's Eve in 2017.

Update: BFD reports the residents and firefighters were taken to the hospital as a precaution and that the chemical a resident brought to the fire station remains "unknown."

There's something in a house on Brook Street at Mt. Hope Street that's bad enough that the Boston Fire Department has brought in two decon units and nearby residents are being told to stay inside. Read more.
