The landlord for the new FitChoice 24/7 health club on Washington Street goes before the Zoning Board of Appeals next week for permission to let the facility live up to its name and actually operate around the clock.

The fitness business, which replaced the Sugar restaurant and bakery, already advertises it's open 24 hours - although staffed only for 12 hours on weekdays - but it turns out you need zoning permission to actually never close.

The board's hearing is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

Fire on Florence Street in Roslindale

40 Florence St. Photo by Donatidaily.

The Boston Fire Department reports a fire at 40 Florence St. did an estimated $200,000 in damage and went to two alarms.

Fire and electrical investigators are still working on determining the cause and initial location of the fire, reported around 3:30 p.m.

Prescient drivers who brought long books with them had plenty of time to catch up this morning. Hyde Park Avenue into Forest Hills was, once again, a complete mess. It was joined this morning by the West Roxbury Parkway and Arborway/Jamaicaway where delays stretched way back, in turn causing a backup on Walter Street that extended all the way to Henry's, where, at least, motorists could stop for a candy bar and a lottery ticket.

Stuck truck in Roslindale Square

Roslindale Square is actually the world's most misshapen rotary, and the toughest part to navigate on a good day is the short stretch from South to Belgrade to Corinth.

And after big snowstorms deposit giant white bumpers, buses and trucks have particular problems getting onto a Corinth Street made even narrower by its own snow and cars parked on both sides. Many, in fact, can't make it, getting stuck and jamming up traffic from all directions until police arrive to halt traffic so the driver can slowly back up and either try again or just give up and go down Belgrade.

Two of the last three plows to come down our narrow street had their blades angled at the other side of the road. Yay for us! Better luck next time, other side of the street.

Mayor Walsh approved space saver

Roving UHub photographer Christopher Wagner filed this photo from Allston today - specifically, in a spot on Islington Street by the Jackson Mann School (which he notes isn't even a resident-only spot).

Meanwhile, Dan checks in from Roslindale - Pinehurst Street at Belgrade, to be exact - which the parking angels passed over last night in their rush to get to Jamaica Plain:

With the news that Boston Cheese Cellar on Birch Street is closing at the end of the month, Adam Kessel has started thinking about a whey to ensure Roslindale continues to have a gouda supply of cheesy comestibles.

Kessel, who already knows something about co-ops, is hoping to have a get-together this weekend to talk about the idea of a co-op taking over from the cheese shop. If interested, drop a line to [email protected].

Seems people are continuing to park across from the train station, even though the city never cleared the road to the curb, narrowing the road to one lane and creating backups that now extend down to Roslindale.

The Clumsy Jeweler reported around 9 a.m. on her efforts to get a bus to the train station this morning:

5 full 32's passed since 7:45. Finally got on one. Driver says it will be an hour to Forest Hills.

Several city councilors say new flight paths out of Logan Airport have shifted early morning flights over neighborhoods not used to being awoken at 5:15 a.m. by low-flying jets - and they want the FAA and Massport to explain what they're going to do about that.

"It's really impacting heavily the quality of life of constituents in my area, who are not as familiar with low flying airplanes as they are now," City Councilor Tim McCarthy (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan) said, adding he has also heard complaints from neighboring West Roxbury and Jamaica Plain.

The owners of the Boston Cheese Cellar on Birch Street said tonight they're closing the shop at the end of the month.

In a newsletter to customers, Kathy Lacher and John Pierce say they're looking for somebody who'd want to continue selling cheese to Roslindale. They plan to go out with a fondue party on Feb. 28.

Roslindale's only cheese shop opened in 2006; it was later joined on Birch Street by a wine shop.

This driver left his window open last night when they came home from the party. The inside was as you would expect, completely full of snow and a huge mess. Next time, take a cab. ..

Self-employed Roslindale residents no longer have to travel out of the neighborhood if they want some office space. Micah Perlin recently opened Rozzie Cowork at 85 Robert St. (that brick building across from Fallon Field).
