Went out this morning, NStar is promising to fix the latest of its Roslindale failures by 2 p.m.

Recent weeks have seen numerous power outages in or near Roslindale Square.

City Councilor Tim McCarthy says a burned-out power conduit is why Roslindale Square and surrounding areas have had numerous power failures recently. He said NStar is now aware of the problem and that city officials have impressed on the utility the need to do something about it, although he did not have a specific date for a permanent fix.

Brandon John

Brandon John's shooting murder on Rowe Street last Thursday appears to be the result of friction between two groups of young men, a Boston Police official told residents tonight.

"It does not appear a random act at all," Deputy Supt. John Brown - who lives a short walk from the murder scene - said at a community meeting at Sacred Heart Church. "It was very directed. ... It happened for a reason."

Boulders

State Police had to block a lane on Centre Street outbound just past Faulkner Hospital tonight when several boulders plummeted to the sidewalk and bike lane from the rock formation between Allandale Street and the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Workers from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation quickly joined troopers as they tried to figure out how to remove the rock slide and keep another one from happening on the ledge underneath Brownson Terrace, a small street normally notable only for the resident who lets all candidates perch their campaign signs on the outcropping above the parkway.

Fog in the Arnold Arboretum

If by "moors," you mean a path at the Arnold Arboretum this morning, that is, as Adam Shutes illustrates.

Nearby, at the Forest Hills commuter-rail stop, Chris reports visibility was down to 20 feet:

Ami Chitwood reports from Roslindale:

Who steals shovels off our porch during a snowstorm? We're the people who dig out other people on the street ... Have no idea how we are going to dig out neighbors. Won't resort to stealing though. Just don't get it. What's particularly weird is they left behind their small shovel - like they were trading up? Sigh. Snow brings out the worst (and best in a couple of cases).

Remember that woman from Roslindale who suddenly had $480,000 burning a hole in her pocket that she decided to spend on ads backing Marty Walsh in the last week of the campaign? The Globe reports she got the money from the American Federation of Teachers, which apparently decided Walsh's support of charter schools was nowhere near as bad as Connolly's support of charter schools.

UPDATE: At 9:53 p.m., Joanna Carvalho tweeted her power - and heat - was still out in JP.

NStar is currently estimating 7 p.m. for a fix to power outages in Jamaica Plain, Dorchester and Roslindale, the city reports.

That can't come soon enough for Maura O'Toole in Jamaica Plain:

It's cold and dark being told 7:30 - so power will have been off < 12 hrs! We have been told 930, 1230, 430.
