In 2011, when he was just 18, Rahim Ramirez was caught with a gun in Dorchester. Earlier this year, after his release from prison, and on learning his friend, Alex DoSouto, had been shot to death, he signed up for a city program called Operation Exit, aimed at getting criminal "impact players" into jobs and off the streets through a construction apprentice program. Reports coming in of power outages from Egleston Square to the intersection of Melnea Cass Boulevard and Mass. Ave.; started around 12:20 a.m.

On Eustis Street in Roxbury and in South Boston near the Heights, the lights flickered but didn't go out.

At 12:54, Eversource showed 2,165 Boston customers without power on its outage map.

Boston Police report the two men were shot shortly after 11 p.m. outside 21 Greenville St. The more seriously wounded man was pronounced dead at a local hospital about an hour later; the other victim will survive. Read more.

The Massachusetts Appeals Court today ordered a new trial for a man convicted of packing an illegal gun in Malcolm X Park in Roxbury because the officers who arrested him in 2010 looked at his cell phone's call history without a warrant, and Suffolk County prosecutors used the evidence they found against him. A correspondent forwarded a photo of a flier he spotted in Mr. G's Plaza in Dudley Square today.

Says they're on quite a few building in the Dudley area, adds, "So upset to know people that think this way live so close," really would love to know who's responsible: See the flier.

Proposed new Whittier building in Roxbury

Developers have filed plans with the BRA to completely tear down the 62-year-old Whittier Street project and replace it over five years with new buildings with more apartments.

Separately, the Boston Housing Authority this week formally asked developers for plans to turn the Bunker Hill project into a mixed-income development. Read more.

The Herald reports on sentencing for Jahvon Goodwin, convicted of second-degree murder for repeatedly stabbing Rashad Lesley-Barnes after they both got off a 23 bus in Dudley Square in 2012.

Because he was convicted of second-degree murder, Goodwin will be eligible for parole in 20 years.

Madison Park Village proposal

The Madison Park Development Corp. has filed plans to build 76 affordable apartments - 14 of them townhouse duplexes - in two buildings on Melnea Cass Boulevard near where it meets Tremont Street.

The proposal, which would include tearing down an existing one-story community center on Raynor Circle, would add 37 parking spaces, in part by moving part of Brooke Marshall Road, where the larger of the two buildings - 60 apartments across five floors - would be built. Read more.
