A Honk band

In the Before Times, activist brass bands from all over the place would join up for a parade from Somerville to Harvard Square. This year, Honk was more spread out - across Somerville, Cambridge and Boston. Greg Cook caught some of the performances yesterday.

Ron Newman was in Nubian Square for some Honking.

Somerville Theatre re-opens

The Somerville Theatre ran its projectors for the public tonight for the first time since it shut in March, 2020. Our own Ron Newman was there for re-opening night. He saw Last Night in Rozzie.

The Somerville Transportation Equity Partnership reports officials announced today that the Union Square stub line is now scheduled to open in December instead of October and that the main part of the extension is now scheduled to start up in May, rather than the previously announced December.

The Supreme Judicial Court today dismissed Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone's lawsuit against a New York blog and one of its writers under the state wiretap law, because the guy asked if he could record a phone "interview" with Curtatone, and the wiretap law only bars "secretly" recorded conversations. Remember when it was about to get cancelled because it was going to cost too much? CommonWealth Magazine reports the project is now forecast to come in under budget, only in part thanks to $103 million in federal recovery aid for mass-transit projects and possibly enough so to let Cambridge and Somerville recover the $45 million they ponied up to keep the project going.
