South Boston note threatening to slash person's tires

A newcomer to Boston, unfamiliar with our quaint ways, found this note on her car after parking in a space designated for visitors in South Boston on Monday.

In East Boston, though, they dispense with the pleasantries and just slash the tires right away.

A vexed citizen files a 311 complaint about a driveway and sidewalk on East 6 Street:

Frank Ulip

A downtown resident has registered a formal campaign organization with state elections officials.

Frank Ulip says he will run for the District 2 seat now held by Bill Linehan of South Boston. Linehan has yet to say if he'll be running for re-election this fall. The city does not release formal petitions for collecting signatures until May. Read more.

Around 11:50 p.m. on Friday at Dorchester Street and Old Colony Avenue. One car was hit twice, police found three shell casings in the intersection. No people hit.

Transit Police report arresting a Dorchester woman on charges she threw hot coffee in a T worker's face around 9:30 p.m. yesterday.

Police say Janet Bourke, 61, of Dorchester, was trying to get into Broadway on the Red Line without paying when the worker spotted her and tried to stop her.

Unhappy teachers at Excel High School

The Herald reports 90% of the teachers at Excel High School and and Brighton High School will be let go as of March 1 - although they will be allowed to re-apply for their jobs - as BPS tries to right the schools, which have struggled with test scores.

No park in South Boston Waterfront area

The Globe reports the new owners of the massive Seaport Square land have Xed out longstanding plans for a park in the middle of the property and will instead give the BPDA plans for a walkway from Summer Street to the water that will be "narrower but longer, and friendlier to foot traffic."

The Boston Business Journal reports that both Legal Sea Foods and Live Nation, which operates the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion, are loudly protesting a cit/state proposal to stick the GE Memorial Heliport on a pier behind the pavilion. They cite noise, which they say would be so severe it would likely drive the pavilion out of business.
