Blue Hills Bank Pavilion under repair

Earlier today, Matt the roving UHub photographer noticed the Blue Hills Bank Pavilion was in the process of being torn down and wondered why. Turns out it's not going away forever, just that the tent fabric is being replaced in time for performances to start up again in the spring.

A developer today filed its plans to turn a 4.9-acre collection of small industrial buildings into a new neighborhood with 656 residential units in eight buildings, 96,000 square feet of retail space - including a grocery store and a pharmacy - and 2.4 acres of "public realm" space.

In a filing with the BRA, Core Investments says its Washington Village - at Old Colony Avenue and Dorchester and Damrell streets - will include both apartments and condos at affordable, "mid-market" and market-rate prices. Read more.

KO Pies after burglary

KO Pies will open an hour late today so workers can clean up the mess left by a burglar who broke in last night and trashed the place.

Anybody who saw anything suspicious between 8:30 and 9 p.m., especially on the W. 3 Street side, should contact police.

Before Suffolk Superior Court Judge Mitchell Kaplan imposed a mandatory life sentence on Timothy Kostka for murdering Barbara Coyne, 67, in her home on April 16, 2012, her family members had a chance to read victim-impact statements.

"I have never been more proud of my mother than I am right now, " her son, Richard, said. "She fought for her home, for her sleeping granddaughter, and for her life." Read more.

Flaming pumpkin at Lawn on D in South Boston

V took in the pumpkin festival on the Lawn on D in South Boston tonight.

Ecco Pierce carved the visage with his "super handy assistant," Ted Lynch. Pierce reports this year's event was amazingly larger than last year's - he reports people waited in line for three hours for a pumpkin to carve for the flaming pumpkin wall, which V videoed: Read more.

Mystery teddy bear in South Boston

Eileen Murphy spotted a teddy bear on a Harley in South Boston tonight. Earlier, she ran across a trio of bears at Carson Beach. A couple days ago, bears appeared on benches along Pleasure Bay.

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Timothy Kostka of first-degree murder for the stabbing death of Barbara Coyne, 67, on April 16, 2012, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The verdict means an automatic sentence of life without parole.

UPDATE, 5:10 p.m Trains began rolling again.

It's rarely a good sign when the fire department shows up at a T stop, and this afternoon will not be the exception that proves that rule. A track fire about 20 feet inbound from Broadway station shortly after 4 p.m. brought firefighters to the platform and a shutdown of electrical service so they could take care of business.

The result was "severe" delays on the Red Line, again.
